About me and this blog
Hey, there! 👋 My name is Jacob Chappell, and I run this little blog called ☠️ Death by Quadratic. I'm a Senior Software Engineer with a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, and I've been developing software since 2005. I've been working for Ramsey Solutions since September of 2021.
I got my start in software development back in the days of Myspace with your typical HTML, CSS, and JavaScript stack. I quickly found I needed to do things server-side (like authentication), and that led me to discover PHP. After several years of hobbyist development, I landed my first internship at a Web development firm in my hometown where I largely worked on WordPress Web sites. By the time I started college, I had quite a bit of experience with Web development and some experience with C and C++.
After school, I worked in the field of supercomputing for 5 years where I had the opportunity to explore DevOps and work with some amazing researchers. Those years were filled with thousand-line bash scripts, C, Python, and Go. I even wrote some publications, like this one!
Now, I'm back in the Software Engineering world and focusing on full-stack development with technologies like Ruby on Rails, Java, Kotlin, Spring, and React.
What about the blog?
This blog is my brainchild: a general place for me to dump my thoughts, and hopefully you'll benefit from some of them. I called it Death by Quadratic because quadratic-time algorithms suck, and it's very easy to create them unintentionally. Once won't kill you, but they add up over time (death by a thousand cuts).
If you haven't already, why don't you check out some posts?
